The Lunch & Chat · Be our host

Pull up a chair. Share what you know.

Our monthly virtual gathering for fractional lawyers across Australia — open to Betweeners and guests alike. You're invited to host.

A note from Jessica

I started Between Counsel because I believe being fractional doesn't mean being on your own. And I started the Lunch & Chat because I wanted to create the kind of conversation I wished I'd had — honest, practical and amongst people who genuinely get it.

Every month, 15 to 20 people from across Australia jump on a Google Meet, bring their lunch, and talk. There's no fixed agenda — just a genuine conversation sparked by someone with something worth sharing. Come with a few thoughts or a full deck; whatever helps you share what you know.

That someone is you.

What it is

A conversation, not a presentation.

The Between Counsel Lunch & Chat is our monthly virtual gathering. It runs for 45 minutes, it's free to attend, and it's one of the most valued parts of the community.

The default is conversational — warm, honest and genuinely useful — but if you prefer to bring a few slides or a short deck, you're very welcome to. It's never recorded, so what's shared in the room stays in the room.

As host, your role is to open the door. You'll kick things off with a short intro and share your topic, experience or perspective. From there, the conversation belongs to everyone in the room.

"A place for betweeners to share, learn and grow. A safe space to ask questions, swap stories, and leave clearer than you arrived."

Why host

What's in it for you.

The Lunch & Chat is an opportunity — whether you're part of the Between Counsel community or coming to us from the outside.

If you're a Betweener

  • Raise your profile within the community
  • Build your personal brand as a fractional lawyer
  • Share hard-won experience with peers
  • Strengthen your network across Australia
  • Establish yourself as a voice in the space

If you're an external guest

  • Introduce your work to a highly targeted audience
  • Show how your expertise benefits fractional lawyers
  • Build credibility and trust with the community
  • Start a genuine conversation — not a sales pitch
  • Get your name in front of 15–20 engaged professionals

Either way, the Lunch & Chat is a chance to show up, add value, and be remembered — because you showed up with something real to share.

Your role as host

What to expect on the day.

There's no required format and no pressure to be perfectly polished. Show up as yourself and bring something worth talking about — whether that's a few dot points or a prepared presentation.

0–5

Welcome & introductions

I'll open the session, introduce you and set the scene.

5–20

Your time

Share your topic, experience, story or perspective. Informal and conversational. Slides are welcome, but never required — use whatever feels natural.

20–45

Open conversation & Q&A

The group jumps in. This is where the session comes alive.

The session is never recorded — so the conversation stays in the room. That's intentional. It keeps things honest.

Choosing your topic

What do you want to talk about?

Your topic can be anything that would spark a genuine conversation for fractional lawyers. It might be something you've lived through, a challenge you've navigated, work you're doing that's relevant to the community — or a question you're still working out yourself.

The best topics aren't polished — they're real.

Not sure which direction to take? Drop Jessica an email — she's happy to help you shape something that will land well with the group.
